\nA rat lives large
\nin a marketplace,<\/span>
\nand a dog does OK<\/span>
\nat the feet of a messy master.<\/span>
\nNot a bad life in the city.<\/span><\/p>\n

In this jungle,<\/span>
\neven a hunter
\nmay be hunted.
\nYou get street smart fast.
\nOtherwise its ugly.<\/span><\/p>\n

This jungle has tiers<\/span>
\nlike the worlds Dante describes,<\/span>
\nwhere different kinds<\/span>
\nof angels and sinners<\/span>
\nfind their proper level.<\/span><\/p>\n

Beneath the surface:<\/span>
\nbehind the scenes,<\/span>
\nbasements and cellars,<\/span>
\npipes and tunnels,<\/span>
\nsteam and storage,<\/span>
\nsubways and sewers.
\nConstant flow.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the ground:<\/span>
\nthe human dance in the public space,<\/span>
\nbuying, selling, and showing off,<\/span>
\nhanging out, flirting, striding with purpose.<\/span>
\nAll the types mix here.<\/span><\/p>\n

Up in the towers:<\/span>
\ndeciders and planners,<\/span>
\nmakers of deals and of rules,<\/span>
\ndegree holders,<\/span>
\nsuit wearers,<\/span>
\nsuit bringers.<\/span><\/p>\n

High in the sky:<\/span>
\nthe thrones of the mighty,<\/span>
\nthose that rise<\/span>
\nor climb<\/span>
\nor cheat<\/span>
\nto the untouchable<\/span>
\ntippy<\/span>
\ntop
