When drawing from looking, I draw fast,
\nroaming the whole terrain over & over,
\nnot dwelling overlong anywhere
\nuntil I know the paths of the land.<\/p>\n
I look & mark softly at first,
\ndefocusing on a pattern
\nof light & shade,
\nof warm & cool,
\nof moving & still.<\/p>\n
An image emerges
\nof a solid body,
\na flow of breath & senses,
\na spark of being,
\na living presence.<\/p>\n
Within the overall pattern, I look for details,
\n& map them onto the foggy map I drew.
\nDetails give character,
\nspecificity,
\nreality.<\/p>\n
I look at every thing as living.
