Climbing against Gravity:
\nstep, step, step, step,
\nforth and up, forth and up –
\nsteps and risers make a stairway.<\/p>\n
Sailing against wind:
\ngo at an angle,
\nleft, right, left, right \u2013
\nbeat and tack into the wind.<\/p>\n
A sailor sails
\nwith no motor but Earths own wind,
\nand catching naught but wind,
\ncan move against the wind –
\nThe sailors call it tacking.<\/p>\n
You point your nose straight into the breeze
\nand cut an angle to one side,
\nthen switch it to the other.
\nThe sail draws you forward,
\na lifting wing in rushing air.<\/p>\n
Culture can come at you like weather –
\nhigh pressure systems
\nbatter and roil low pressure fields
\nlike angry Gods of Old.
\nBut you can tack against these winds.<\/p>\n
